RESEARCH PROJECT:
Communication: the logic of diversity

Description
This project follows a long communication research on the phenomenon of education (which resulted in the book Reinventando a educação - diversidade, descolonização e redes, published by Editora Vozes, 2012), followed by another on the possibility of a communicational methodology. This last expression means a plural cultural, cognitive, pedagogical, technological and economic approach to the object, which goes from cultural diversity to communication technologies. In our theoretical perspective, the academic path of communication is not confined to the pure description of technological processes nor to the teaching of these processes, since it necessarily includes social education for the mutation they trigger, which implies a new thinking for technological and cultural diversity . We stand within a critical tradition, represented, for example, by Hannah Arendt"s observation that individuals can continue to learn to the end of their lives without ever being educated. We understand the thinker"s warning as an assertion that the educational process is something greater than the assimilation of the knowledge necessary for professional life. In the case of communication education, knowledge demands - along with a cognitive systematization - an understanding of cultural diversity increasingly rich in the context of turbo-capitalist globalization (in order to obtain a broader perspective and a better evaluation of alterities). It is a mutation that incites the dialogue of cultures: writing is forced to dialogue with orality and musical sonority, which come from the popular classes as well as the audiovisual and digital. What is effectively focused is the promotion of the interface of tradition with the modern. For that, it is necessary to search for a logic of diversity, which can start from the problematic (theory and practice) historically suggested by the field of communication. I emphasize that this research project is being developed in the research group LECC-PPGCOM / UFRJ and is linked to the research line Media and Sociocultural Mediations.
