RESEARCH PROJECT:
Celebrities and the spectacularization of healthy lifestyle: experience, biography and counseling in contemporary media

Description
With a certain regularity, health promotion discourses emphasize individual accountability, caring for self-vigilance, productivity, competitiveness, and performance in the territory of healthy choices (a kind of entrepreneurship of one"s own life) than the social determinants involved in Health and disease settings. In a continuous process of producing speeches that articulate lifestyle, fitness, well-being, and health, celebrities seek to arrest and are subjected to the conquest of yet another kind of health capital-spectacle, spectacular health on the surface of the body, and In the media exposure of conducts, physical forms, choices considered healthy and warnings about practices considered health risk factors and that can promote or have already promoted in them sufferings. The main objective of this research is to analyze the biographical narratives and gestures of celebrities about the healthy lifestyle in diverse products and supports of the contemporary media culture in Brazil, questioning to what extent the corporal experience of healthy life authorizes them to advise on the choices and Conducts within a context marked by neoliberal governmentalism, therapeutic discourse and the morality of the spectacle. To do so, the project has the following specific objectives: 1) to explain the differences and similarities between biographical narratives involving pleasure and suffering with the search for a healthy lifestyle in the multiple materialities considered (print, television, online ); 2) to observe articulations of expressions such as quality of life, well-being, good form and happiness to the idea of ??health as marks of personal differentiation; 3) to address the implications of the processes of spectacularization in the association of health with the domain of aesthetics; and 4) understand recognition systems and discursive disputes by the public involved in the processes of consecration, mistrust, or repudiation of the search for a healthy lifestyle experienced and narrated by celebrities. Therefore, what is sought in this research is to investigate the discursive strategies and performances of memory involved in the way celebrities narrate, in reports and interviews in newspapers, magazines, websites and television programs, but also in publications in social networks, their practices of corporal improvement and conduction of a healthy lifestyle, as well as the disorders and misfortunes related to the search for the health-spectacle. The corpus of the analysis is composed of articles published in newspapers, magazines and websites, television programs and postings on social networks, especially on Instagram. The analysis will be made from celebrity cases that: 1) underwent surgical procedures to reduce weight; 2) participated in reality shows to change the body and lifestyle; 3) altered their eating habits and physical activity routine; 4) are recognized by the continuous improvement of the healthy lifestyle to the point of being summoned as specialists in health, body and beauty; 5) had experiences considered to be failed and were frustrated in the process of seeking health-show, either by maintaining habits that did not contribute to the loss and gain of ideal weight, or due to illness due to complications caused by aesthetic surgeries, use of Medications and anabolics or unsuccessful diets; 6) have been elevated to celebrity status or reinvigorated themselves as such because of the success of their posts with food, beauty and fitness tips posted on Instagram.
